About Us

Good Foundations Academy (GFA) is a K-6 public charter school offering a unique educational program with an emphasis on character and academic excellence. Our school serves students in kindergarten through sixth grade. GFA opened its doors to approximately 300 students for its inaugural school year in August 2010. With strong support from our community, we have now grown to an enrollment of over 400 students at our school.

The administrative team consists of the Executive Director, Character Director, Curriculum Director, Office Manager and Administrative Assistant. The Executive Director oversees the entire plan to help the school meet the goals and vision set forth by the board of directors The Executive Director is the superintendent and principal of the school. The School Character Director is responsible for developing our academic and character education program, supervision of teacher aides, professional development, and school-wide assessments. The Curriculum Director is responsible for student discipline and classroom management. The Office Manager supervises all kitchen and office staff, manages all office functions, and coordinates our enrollment and student records. GFA currently employs 23 full-time teachers, with two teachers serving in our special education department. GFA also employs 9 paraprofessional aides, 8 part-time resource aides, and a lunch and custodial staff.

GFA is located in a newly-owned and remodeled building in Riverdale City, Utah. In addition to our remodeled classrooms, we have two playgrounds, two computer labs, a large gymnasium, cafeteria, library, music room, and art room. After our school hours, GFA offers a popular and FREE extra-curricular program that includes physical activities, music and drama, art classes, and library clubs.

GFA has some of the most outstanding teachers in the region. All of our teachers are certified in Utah or are currently pursuing full certification in an approved program. Our teachers are the heart of our program and we recognize their efforts to achieve and demonstrate academic excellence and their commitment to our program.

Mission

The purpose of Good Foundations Academy is to provide excellence and fairness in education through a common educational foundation. This will be achieved by successfully teaching a carefully sequenced body of content and skills, and developing a school culture that instills the values of strong character in a democratic society. GFA has partnered with top-ranked and award-winning Liberty Common School, a charter school located in Fort Collins, Colorado, to bring to Weber County this successful, research-based model of academic excellence. Our goal is to provide each student with knowledge, skills, and character through strong parent-teacher-student partnerships .

Instructional Program

To meet our mission, Good Foundations Academy utilizes the Core Knowledge curriculum. Core Knowledge is based on the idea that knowledge builds on knowledge. The Core Knowledge Sequence provides a coherent, cumulative, and content-specific grade by grade outline of topics that helps ensure excellence and equity. GFA is committed to full implementation of the Core Knowledge Sequence, in every subject, at every grade level. GFA is pursuing “official school” status and recognition from the Core Knowledge Foundation that we are effectively implementing the Sequence. You can read more about Core Knowledge on our Curriculum page.

Teachers at Good Foundations Academy receive ongoing training in all major curriculum components and support each other in a spirit of collegial partnership. Peer observations, grade-level teams, and mentor teams provide opportunities for collaboration and communication between all members of the instructional staff. Teachers also participate in book clubs and professional development in staff meetings and in-service days to enrich their instructional practice.
