Melissa Wood

K-3 Assistant Director

I transitioned from teaching to administration and am now starting my fifth year as an Assistant Director. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix, graduating with Honors, and I hold a Professional Educator License from the State of Utah. This year marks my fifteenth year in education. I taught Kindergarten for two years and First Grade for seven years at Good Foundations Academy (GFA). Before joining GFA, I taught full-day Kindergarten at Christian Heritage School.

I am passionate about the challenges that the Core Knowledge curriculum presents to students at GFA and enjoy seeing them become excited about their learning. I have a deep love for the students who have come through my classroom, and they always hold a special place in my heart. My hope for students during their time at GFA is that they learn, grow, and celebrate their successes.

Throughout my time at GFA, I have served as the First Grade Lead Teacher, the Teacher Representative for the Guardian Committee, and participated in various committees and teams.

I have been married to my husband Kyle for 23 years, and together we have three children. Our son Noah graduated from NUAMES High School and Weber State University with an Associate's Degree, and he is also a graduate of GFA. Our daughter Bella recently graduated from Northridge High School and is currently an esthetician apprentice; she, too, is a GFA graduate. Our youngest, Kyla, is in eighth grade and also graduated from GFA. I feel incredibly fortunate that my children have had the opportunity to attend a school where they learned from the same amazing teachers and staff with whom I have had the pleasure of working at GFA. When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, volunteering as the Key Volunteer for my husband's unit in the Utah Air National Guard to support military families, shopping, traveling, and visiting my favorite coffee spots—Dutch Bros. and Starbucks! I was honored to be named the 2014 Good Foundations Academy Teacher of the Year. Additionally, in 2017, I received several recognitions: the 151st Mission Support Group Volunteer of the Year, the Utah Air National Guard Key Volunteer of the Year, and the Utah National Guard Service Member and Family Support Utah Air National Guard Volunteer of the Year.
