Steve Carty

PE Teacher

Coach Carty comes from a healthcare background where he was a hospital CEO for several years. More

recently, he was an Associate Dean of Health Sciences in Higher Education and an Adjunct Instructor in

Healthcare Administration at two other universities. Coach Carty holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical

Education and an Associate degree in nursing from Weber State University. He also holds a Master’s

degree in business/marketing from the University of Oregon. He worked on the surgical unit at Primary

Children’s Medical Center and was a Licensed Social Worker at Weber Human Services.

As a service-oriented individual, Coach Carty enjoyed serving a 2-year full-time mission for the LDS

church in Milan, Italy at 19 years of age. He was also an Eagle Scout and a scoutmaster for the Boy

Scouts of America. As a father of five children, he has loved coaching them in a variety of sports. His love

for sports led him to coaching high school soccer in Colorado for three years while he was a Chief

Operating Officer at a local hospital. Coach Carty loves skiing and has been a Certified Ski Instructor with

PSIA for 15 years where he worked for Winter Park Resort in Colorado, Silver Mountain Resort in Idaho,

Powder Mountain Ski Resort, Vail Resorts at Park City Canyons, and currently teaches at Snow Basin Ski

Resort. His interests include mountain biking, hiking, camping, rafting, water-skiing, football, basketball,

and watching sports. He is an avid photographer and makes picture frames out of wood.

Coach Carty is excited to be returning to GFA for his 5th year as a Licensed K-12 Physical Education

teacher. He plans to continue teaching the basic fundamentals of a variety of sports with an emphasis

on Sports Leadership.
